The first Carnival of GRADual Progress will be hosted by me at Fumbling Towards Geekdom on August 15th.
Originally we thought of having the carnival on the 1st of each month so as to alternate nicely with the Teaching Carnival, but they has now become a fortnightly event, so it doesn't matter too much when we hold ours. And currently I get to be all executive and decisive about everything, so I pick the 15th.
Please submit your posts (or any that you come across in your blog-surfing) in one of the ways described here.

I nominate Dean Dad's provocative post on the wisdom of going to grad school at all (hint: he calls it a "cycle of abuse"). It's worth thinking about even if it's kinda too late for all of us.

Linked to you on the blogs...
I'll go ahead and self-nominate a piece I just finished writing on "how to finish your phD in a reasonable number of years."
Oh, and can I reccommend another one on getting ready to get out of grad school. Dr. Mom has a comprehensive list of what needs to go into a faculty application package (http://mommyscientist.blogspot.com/2006/08/faculty-packages.html)
I have a post I can contribute:

hello,
From the POV of a grad student
on the perceived futility of "fundemental" research in the field of cancer research and why it's not as futile as it seems: (it's really a crappy argumentation but I thought I'd give it a try)
